But sometimes, it can be weeks after an interview without a response from a potential employer. If this happens, you can send a second follow-up email to sign up. Finally, you can send an email requesting that you keep in touch with the hiring manager. If you didn’t get the job, this is a great way to expand your network and learn to improve your chances next time.

What to avoid in the Follow Up Email After Interview?

The first and most important thing after a job interview is to be patient. Although we have doubts and do not know anything about the position we have to wait. It can be hard but sending the mail soon after can be much worse.

When we start from insecurity, the recruiter perceives anxiety and pressure. You should avoid making the recruiter feel under pressure or believe that you are insisting because he has not called you, or has forgotten. These are characteristics that are not desired within a company, we seek the opposite. With the follow-up email we want to solve our doubts but it can also become a trick to earn points, only if it is done well.

Long-term follow-up thanks to email

In the long version, you have more opportunities to explain your skills in detail (although you will notice that this long version is still relatively short). Here’s what to include:

In the first paragraph, thank your interviewer for their time and express their continued interest in the job and the company. In the second paragraph, mention something from the conversation and expand on it. Be as specific as possible and keep it short and direct. In the third and last paragraph, it ends with a summary of what distinguishes you as a candidate and what it will contribute to this new opportunity.
